Across the USA and Canada” by Warren R. Bland, PhD

Landscape:
Naples’ beautiful landscape includes natural
vegetation like grasses, pines and bald cypress, and exotic
tropical ornamentals like royal and coconut palms, and
a wide variety of flowering plants like bougainvillea
and magnificent stands of magnolia, laurel oak and Australian
pines. ...
Climate:
Two seasons: The winter half, November thru April, is
warm, sunny and dry. The summer half, May thru October,
is hot and humid with afternoon showers. Annual precipitation
averages 52 inches, with 60 % falling between June and
September. Naples is sunny about 70 % of the year and
frost-free.
Quality of Life:
Excellent. Naples long public beach is wonderful and,
its historic shopping districts are charming, with a park-like
ambiance with nicely treed and flowered neighborhoods.
Housing:
A good variety of new and resale homes available over
a wide price range.
Goods and Services:
Living costs in Naples are only moderately above the national
average.
Taxes:
State and local taxes are lower than the national average
and Florida has no state income tax. Property taxes, reflecting
high property values, exceed the national average but
are lower on less expensive properties in inland areas
of the county.
Transportation:
Minimal public transit. Residents drive. Convenient jet
service is available at Naples Municipal Airport and better
service is offered at Southwest Florida Regional Airport.
Retail Services:
You can shop till you drop at upscale and charming retailing
sites in Naples and moderate local malls.
Health Care:
For a small city, Naples provides unusually good medical
care.
Community Services:
Municipal, county and private organizations provide a
good array of community services.
Cultural and Educational Activities:
Naples has a lively cultural scene with the Naples Symphony,
Miami City Ballet, concerts, and Broadway plays.
Recreational Activities:
Year-round fun. Miles of sugary, white sand beaches with
warm, shallow water are among America’s best. Water
sports, boating, fishing, golf and tennis abound. Reflecting
its status as a prime winter resort, Naples boasts exceptional
restaurants.
Work and Volunteer Activities:
The booming local economy continues to generate large
numbers of jobs as well as openings for volunteers at
hospitals, schools, libraries, museums, nature preserves
and visitor centers.
Crime Rates and Public Safety:
Residential neighborhoods, recreation areas and commercial
districts are all quite safe.
Conclusion:
Naples has managed to retain its essential character as
a charming resort and retirement town dedicated to leisure
pursuits and gracious living. For those who can afford
it, Naples may well be the mainland USA’s best example
of a tropical paradise.
